Make Money Online - Blog CarnivalNo! It isn't a place for you to take your blog and put it on a roller coaster :-). It isn't a place to go and get cotton candy either :-)! Instead, what blog carnivals are is a way to build quality traffic and back links to your site. Blog carnivals put together multiple posts from different bloggers on the same topic and then market the compiled collection or 'carnival' to people who then read the posts. The one document with all of the posts may contain a myriad of different bloggers, all writing about the same thing. It is an aggregator for posts about a particular topic. Depending on how often the blog carnival is run (weekly, monthly, etc), you can go from 0 traffic to substantial traffic very quickly.

When submitting your posts to a blog carnival, there are a few things to keep in mind.

  • Make sure you don't spam the carnival by submitting your posts to multiple categories that don't fit with the niche of your blog. Good carnivals take care of issues like this, but, the truth is that you should be smart enough to handle this one on your own. The purpose of the blog is to provide targeted information to people about one particular topic. Submitting your posts to topics it doesn't fit in only dilutes the value of the carnival, thereby defeating the purpose. Control yourself and submit your posts to the category it fits in.

  • Submit quality posts to the carnival. If you got feedback from an article you published that tells you that a particular posts was well received, then submit that post. Don't try to submit the post that no one wanted to read just so you can promote it. Submit your best work because many people may see it. You don't want your name associated with crap when it's sitting right beside another bloggers work do you? Submit only your best posts.

  • Use the blog carnival consistently to get good results. When you are first starting out, you want to submit regularly. Doing something once and then expecting results is like going into the gym for 30 minutes and lifting weights and then leaving and never coming back again. Initially, you are not going to see results if you don't consistently push your carnival submissions.

  • Make sure you don't move your posts around on your blog or change titles after submitting the post to a blog carnival. Can you say 404 error? I had this problem when I changed PureBlogic at the beginning of the year from a WordPress blog over to a Joomla blog. I had posts that had been linked to that were generating a great deal of 404 errors. I had to end up creating a list for the 404 page so that people could find the posts. It was an imperfect solution, but, it was all I could do since I was also changing the way my links were structured. Once you start building good traffic with your carnival, do what you can to keep those post titles exactly as they are.

Blog carnivals are an absolutely excellent way to build back links to your blog. In addition to that benefit, they can provide an excellent way for you to market your best material and actually get it looked at by people who want to read it as long as your posts are placed in the right carnival. With a lot of care, diligence and quality posts, you can turn a great blog with a little traffic into a great blog with mega-traffic. Take some time and check out blog carnivals.
